Marie Selby Botanical Gardens - Downtown Sarasota Campus
At the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, there are many unique experiences to take advantage of. The Gardens are split up into two sections; 15 acres of it in the Downtown Sarasota Campus and 30 acres are located at the Historic Spanish Point Campus, totaling 45 acres. Its mission is to connect people with air plants, local nature, and regional history.
The Downtown Campus is the only botanical garden from across the world to display and study epiphytic orchids, bromeliads, gesneriads and ferns, and many more tropical plants. At the HSP campus, you can discover over 5,000 years of rich regional history.
Both sites feature gift shops and venue rentals. They also offer a wide array of exhibits, including poetry, art, and even a butterfly house. They also provide virtual events for all age groups that contain a constant flux of new events. From September - to May, your school can reserve virtual field trips that include curricular packets.
One of the many exhibits you can find at the gardens is the Children's Rainforest Garden. Inside there’s a 100-year-old banyan tree, a 12’ waterfall, the forest pool, canopy walk, Amphitheater & Village Center, The Research Station, and the Epiphyte Canyon.
If you’re going as a group of 7+, take advantage of the different types of tours. They have self-guided or guided 1.25-mile walking tours. They also have golf carts and boat tours to give you a variety of perspectives on the gardens.
