In 1994, the Marco Island Historical Society, a nonprofit organization was founded. Their mission has always been to acquire and preserve as much of the history of this beautiful island as they could. They seek to inform the community and be a constant reminder of their dynamic heritage.
They partnered with the Marco Island Historical Museum that was birthed in 2010. This was a building they had dreamed to create since their inception. It serves to bring the vanished civilization of Calusa to life with recreated villages and displays. There are temporary exhibits that take place to keep things fresh and exciting.
There is much history to be consumed here through this wonderful organization, and they guarantee an amazing experience for you and your family. All age groups are welcome.
The museum gift shop is full of historical books relating to the region along as artwork and other items. They encourage you to take a piece of history home with you.
