The Burroughs Home and Gardens is a lovely historical space. The home was purchased by Nelson and Adeline Burroughs back in 1918 and 60 years later, in 1978, the Burroughs Home and Gardens was generously gifted to the City of Fort Myers by Mona Burroughs Fischer under the premise that the home would be preserved as a library, park, or museum.
In 1984, the home was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was declared a local historical landmark ten years later in 1994. The Burroughs Home and Garden is currently under the care of the Uncommon Friends Foundation.
The garden and the grounds contain the first designated grotto built in Fort Myers, a free-standing fountain, Floridian foliage, a gazebo, a palm alley, a secret garden with reflecting pool, and a tennis court. There is also a caretaker’s carriage house and utility shed. The space is utilized for historical tours, a Holiday House in December (two weeks before Christmas), special events, teas, receptions, and weddings.
